The Palaszczuk Government has announced it will upgrade Beaudesert Road to six lanes through the busy Illaweena Street intersection as part of a $400 million COVID-19 recovery package unveiled today.
$30 million will be invested to widen Beaudesert Road right through to the Logan Motorway interchange, creating 30 jobs for local business and suppliers as the state tackles the economic impacts of coronavirus.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the recovery package during parliament, which will see new projects join a multi-billion dollar pipeline of transport and roads upgrades being built right now across Queensland.
Member for Algester Leeanne Enoch said these upgrades will make a huge difference for people commuting from Algester and Parkinson, and will also improve travel times for families in Browns Plains, Regents Park and Hillcrest.
"We fought and won to keep traffic off of our local roads by keeping the right turn lane from Beaudesert Road onto the Logan Motorway, and this new project will make sure people can get to work quicker, students can get home sooner and families can travel safer.”
“This $30 million accelerated investment will support 30 jobs during construction, and is a win for our community, which altogether will see six through-lanes on Beaudesert Road plus extended right turns, additional slip lanes and an overhaul of the pedestrian crossings,” Ms Enoch said.
Member for Stretton Duncan Pegg said more than 56,000 vehicles travelled along through the intersection every day, including 5,100 heavy vehicles, with many drivers using Beaudesert Road to get onto the recently completed $512 million Logan Motorway upgrade.
“The benefit of a project like this is two-fold: there’s jobs during construction, and once it’s built there’s less traffic for the thousands of local companies who rely on our roads to do business,” Mr Pegg said.
This investment will be joined by a $200 million injection across Queensland to widen many of our narrower roads, plus rollout more sealed roads and upgrades to bridges.
“It adds to the $3.13 billion being rolled out for roads and transport in our region, supporting 3,000 jobs and driving work for local businesses,” Mr Pegg said.
