Acacia Ridge residents are set to benefit from the Palaszczuk Government’s We Are Queensland grants program, with Belong in Acacia Ridge (formerly known as Acacia Ridge Community Support) receiving $16,431.
Member for Algester Leeanne Enoch said the grants were aimed at helping Queenslanders become more involved in their communities, as well as encouraging a society where everyone is respected.
“It’s important that everyone here in the Algester electorate – and across our state – feels welcome to make a positive and valued contribution to the community,” Ms Enoch said.
“Our community is one of the most multicultural in the state, and this diversity brings richness to our area and its residents.
“The We Are Queensland grants allow our organisations and clubs to get the boost they need to deliver local community services and neighbourhood activities.
“This work is vital for bringing people together and creating important links between individuals, families and the broader community.”
Belong Director Trish Cattermole said the program was an extremely important way to build social cohesion and community connections.
“Our project, Creating Connections Through Story, will unite participants from diverse backgrounds by conducting story crafting workshops that utilise a variety of creative mediums,” Ms Cattermole said.
“We know our communities are stronger and more connected when local community members feel included, supported and engaged.”
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said over $1 million had been awarded as part of the We Are Queensland grants program, which launched in July this year, offering grants of up to $20,000.
“Queensland is a great state for so many reasons, but our people will always be our greatest asset,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“It’s wonderful to see our communities always striving to become more supportive, vibrant and inclusive for families and individuals alike.”
