October 20, 2017

The Hon Leeanne Enoch MP joins with Life Education Queensland CEO, Mr Michael Fawsitt and Pallara State School Principal, Mr Mark Johnstone, along with Year 1 students to celebrate Life Education Queensland

Member for Algester and Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business, Hon Leeanne Enoch MP, has joined with Life Education Queensland at Pallara State School today.

Minister Enoch has been a loyal supporter and advocate of the program for many years. She joined with Year 1 students to help deliver Life Education’s new junior model Ready, Steady, Go!

“Life Education is a valuable program. It teaches our children vital skills in living a safe and healthy life by making healthy choices now and in the future,” Ms Enoch said.

“Queensland Health is a proud supporter of the initiative. This year alone, the Palaszczuk Government has invested $1.54 million as part of a broader package committed to in 2016.

“Investing in opportunities for students to learn about the importance of physical activity, cyber safety and having a safe environment free of bullying is invaluable for students.”

The program also covers tobacco education, safe consumption of alcohol, sexual health and illicit drugs.

Pallara State School Principal Mark Johnstone said the school finds Life Education value-adds to the existing curriculum in a positive way and students really engage in the program.

“It’s a holistic program that covers important life skills that aren’t necessarily covered in the existing curriculum,” Mr Johnstone said.

“It’s something that we book each year and we will continue to do so into the future.”

The support of the Queensland Government is integral to Life Education’s reach in Queensland.

“Over the past 30 years, we estimate that 1.3 million Queenslanders have participated in the Life Education program,” says Life Education Queensland CEO, Michael Fawsitt.

“Queensland Health’s support has led to an almost doubling in the number of children accessing our program across Queensland, from 107,000 in 2013 to more than 200,000 this financial year,” he said.

The Ready, Steady, Go! module is a fun and interactive learning experience that aims to empower children to make safer and healthier choices.

“Children will enjoy animated stories, engaged in hands-on activities, sung songs, and taken part in discussion and problem solving with their peers, “ said Mr Fawsitt.

Ready, Steady, Go! focuses on the benefits of healthy eating, physical activity, strategies to stay safe, and how our body reacts in different situations.
