Local Lions Club champion ceremony for Queenslanders

May 11, 2018

The Algester Parkinson Lions’ are celebrating Queensland Day for the second year running with market stalls, performances, and awards to be presented to local heroes.

Member for Algester Leeanne Enoch, who will present the award ceremony, said the awards are a fantastic way of congratulating heroes whose work often goes unnoticed.

“We are part of such a diverse and generous community here and it’s because everyone is always looking out for each other,” Ms Enoch said.

“These awards are about recognising the great work our community members put in and showing people that their generosity makes a difference.

Awards will be presented at the Queensland Day celebrations organised by the Algester Parkinson Lions on Sunday 10 June at Algester State School.

Algester Parkinson Lions Club President Greg Bell said the festival will celebrate not only achievements from local individuals, but also the work of local community groups.

“In previous years we’ve seen the community really come together for a fun festival with the family and that’s exactly what we want this year,” Mr Bell said.

“We don’t just limit the festival to a select few groups, we try to get everyone involved and have a good time with it.

This year there are five categories for the Queensland Day Awards. These include:

  • Youth (Under 25)
  • Senior (Over 65)
  • Cultural
  • Local Hero
